change the network mode from GLOBAL to GMS/UMTS | 1 Nov, 2009 6:41 PM | | How Can I Find Out If My Curve Is Locked? This is easily worked out. Input a SIM different from the one that you were supplied with and turn the Blackberry on. If the phone is locked you will not be able to access the phone and will receive a message such as ‘Phone Restricted’ or ‘Invalid SIM’. | 1 Nov, 2009 6:42 PM | Is Unlocking Illegal? No, unlocking is not illegal.
It is a common misconception that unlocking a cell phone is illegal. Understandably the network providers are not keen to unlock your handset because it results in loss revenue for them, but unlocking simply refers to making the phone work with any SIM card.
The misconception occurs because "unlocking" is often confused with the "unblocking" of a phone. This is definitely illegal and Unlock My Curve does not participate in the unlocking of blocked phones. A phone is typically blocked by the network provider because it has been reported lost or stolen.
For more information on the legality of unlocking a mobile phone, the United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police have posted more information at the link below:
